I am a princess. My kingdom is a mud-hole and my castle is a single-wide. My coach is an 84 Toyota Camry and my royal subjects are a screaming two year old and a whiny five year old. This is my life as of now.
While driving to work today I drove past a construction site. It looked like they were laying pipe in the ground. There was a lot of dirt. It reminded me of home. Then, I saw it. That pile of green glory. Uplifted grass patches brought up by a bulldozer, laying there, begging for me to offer it some candy then snatch it away in the blink of an eye. At that moment, I knew how Jim Carry felt in the movie “Fun with Dick and Jane”. In a desperate act, he cut pieces of grass out of his neighbor’s yard to cover the naked brown of a mess that used to be his own beautifully landscaped lawn. It had been repossessed after he got laid off and couldn’t pay his bill. He looked like a crazy mad man. That is how I envisioned myself while driving by in slow motion, staring that grass down like it was nobody’s business. A pink princess dress on with rubber muck boots. Dirt from head to toe. My hands full of grass patches, my hair in a mess. A look of crazy in my eye. It made me laugh. I needed that laugh as it was only 7:30 in the morning and I had already given up for the day due to a 30 minute commute with earlier said royal subjects. I can’t wait until spring. I want my grass to grow. Until then, I’ll deal with what I have and dream of the day that we can finally build a HOUSE. Soon enough, Mud Princess, soon enough.
Excellent! Clearer than your previous effort and it made me smile and think about grass. About spring...
